Sunflower playhouse: Danndee Flowers Kids Playground 2024
A favorite childhood memory is a sunflower summer playhouse. The story of a sunflower house begins with a stick, packet or two of sunflower seeds, a packet of morning glory seeds, and a watering can. Choose the best, flattest, sunniest spot in your garden. Trace a rectangle about 6 by 9 feet, leaving a small opening for a doorway. Drag a stick along the ground and gouge out a trench a couple of inches deep. Drop in a sunflower seed and a morning glory seed every few inches. With your foot, knock the earth back over the seeds and give them a small drink of water.
Every day give a drink of water to the sleeping seeds. When the sunflowers are twice as tall as a kid, find a big roll of string and a ladder. Tie string to the top of the sunflower neck and lace the string across the rectangle, back and forth, so it looks like a spider web of string against the blue Illinois sky. Pretty soon you will have a fort of lacework of vines and flowers to spend the best days of summer!
